DOAB & OAPEN

DOAB is a community-driven discovery service that indexes and provides access to scholarly, peer-reviewed open access books and helps users to find trusted open access book publishers. Academic publishers are invited to provide the metadata of their open access books to DOAB for free, provided they meet the DOAB inclusion criteria. They can also participate in PRISM (the Peer Review Information Service for Monographs), a standardised way for them to display information about their peer review processes across their entire catalogue and on a publisher level, for free. PRISM helps provide transparency about quality control and builds trust in OA book publishing.

OAPEN promotes and supports the transition to open access for peer-reviewed books by connecting publishers, funders, libraries, and researchers in the area of open access (OA) books with the aim of advancing research for the public good. OAPEN provides hosting, dissemination, and preservation services for publishers of OA books to increase their discoverability and impact. We enable free, seamless access to a curated and fast-growing collection of thousands of peer reviewed OA books, easy for libraries to integrate into their catalogues in a structured and dynamic way. We also manage OA book collections for research funders by providing a suite of services that supports the implementation and monitoring of their OA book policies.

Both DOAB & OAPEN are deemed essential open science infrastructure by SCOSS.
